I grew up in Guatemala and taught myself to paint — no art school, just years of not being able to put the brush down. A few years ago I moved to Barcelona, and somewhere in that mess of a new city I fell for the Maneki Neko: the little figurine that's supposed to bring luck.
Now I paint them one at a time from my studio here. I sign the bottom of every one. Some come out in three days, some argue with me for a week. None of them come out the same — which, honestly, is the whole point. I'd rather make you something that's only yours.
